JVMS Minutes 05-08-08 meeting:
The meeting was called to order by JVMS president Dr. Rebecca Williams. A guest for the evening was Dr. Stephanie Nicoletto who is working part-time with Dr. Greshake.
Dr. Rick Williams spoke about FVMA news. The Pharmacy bill met with at least 2 rounds of “strike all amendments”, causing a language change to the bill. The language has been adjusted again to reflect the association’s needs. South Florida announced a proposed bill to make bestiality a 1st degree felony in FL. The Fifth Annual Leadership Conference will be held in Orlando at the Florida Hotel May 31-June1st. Anyone interested in attending can contact Drs. Rick Williams, Rebecca Williams, Rick Sutliff or Ann Silverness for information. This years 2008 FVMA convention is in Orlando in the fall and next years will move to spring time in Tampa.
Dr. Sutliff has been fielding a large number of phone calls from clinics around town about the tag and licensing changes with AC&C. Hopefully our efforts to disseminate information will encourage as many clinics as possible to participate. Several practitioners at the dinner meeting reported very positive feedback from their clients so far. Dr. Niessen handed out copies of the printed client info brochures. If any clinic does not yet have them and would like some, please contact her at kniessen@coj.net.
The website has been up and running since shortly after our last meeting. Please visit frequently, as we will keep it current. There will be notices of meetings, posted minutes, comments, links and job postings.
The next CE will be the joint FVMA/JVMS regional meeting,"Building The Dynamic Veterinary Team”, on June 8th. Dr. Miller will be giving a 6-hour dermatology lecture this fall.
Dr. Acree reported by phone that the Peer Review committee has had no activity. Dr. Acree needs to receive nominations for the FVMA awards by May 31st.
Dr. Tracy Ladue is organizing our holiday party this year. Members present at the meeting were allowed to vote on a date and location. The winning time and date is December 6th at Bella Serra’s in Avondale. Invite friends, family and co-workers and let’s make this year memorable.
A family day is to be scheduled at the Zoo on a Sunday this August. An exact date has yet to be decided.
Dr. Rebecca Williams mentioned that traditionally the association has paid for part of the September annual meeting dinner costs, and requested that we do so this year. The motion was approved. Members will pay $35/person and the association will pay the rest. Dr. Snyder suggested keeping the event at the Epping Forest Yacht Club.
The vaccine clinics around town were discussed again. There is still concern that they do not have the proper occupational licensure for their activity within the city. This matter will be investigated further.
